What Seiton is

Seiton is a home inventory app. You map your home as a tree of places, record the items in it with photos, barcodes and tags, and search the lot. It works offline: your inventory lives on your own device and stays usable with no signal.

The app works fully without an account. Signing in and Premium add the parts that need a server: a copy of your inventory synced between your devices, photo backup, and a home everyone in your home shares.

Using Seiton means agreeing to what is on this page. If you do not, please do not use the app.

Your account and the sign-in code

There is no password. You sign in with a one-time code, sent either to your email address or as a text message to your phone number, and entering it is what proves the account is yours.

  • •

Keep access to whichever address or number you sign in with. Anyone who can read the code can reach the account.

  • •

An email identity and a phone identity are separate accounts until you link them yourself from inside the app.

  • •

Give an address or number that is yours to use. Do not sign in on someone else's behalf without their say-so.

What you put in your inventory stays yours. Seiton claims no ownership of your items, your photos or anything else you record, and holds them only to run the parts of the service you switched on.

Text messages

If you choose to sign in with your phone number, Seiton sends you a text message carrying a one-time code. That is the only thing it is used for:

  • •

One message per sign-in, sent because you asked to sign in.

  • •

No marketing, no promotions and no newsletters are ever sent to your number.

  • •

Message and data rates may apply.

  • •

Reply STOP to any message to opt out, and HELP for help. You can also write to contact@seiton.im.

We will not share or sell your mobile information with third parties for promotional or marketing purposes.

Opting out of the messages ends the phone sign-in channel for that number: signing in by email stays available.

What you may not do

  • •

Use Seiton for anything unlawful, or to store material you have no right to hold.

  • •

Try to reach another home's inventory, or any part of the service you were not invited into.

  • •

Break, overload or work around the service, its rate limits or its sign-in, or automate access to it in bulk.

  • •

Resell the service, or pass your account on to someone else as a way of sharing a subscription.

Inviting someone into your home lets them see everything in it, items and photos included, so invite only the people you would trust with your home. What the people in your house do with what they see is between you and them.

Premium and payments

Everything except home sharing and sync is free. Premium is a subscription, and how it is billed depends on where you bought it:

  • •

Bought through Seiton, it runs through Stripe. Your card is entered with Stripe and stays with Stripe; all Seiton learns is whether your subscription is active.

  • •

Bought in the App Store or Google Play, that store bills you and that store is the only place the subscription can be cancelled.

A subscription renews until it is cancelled, and cancelling stops the next renewal rather than the current period. Sync stops when Premium ends: what is on your own devices is untouched and keeps working, and the Privacy Policy says what happens to the copy on our servers.

For anything else about a payment, including a refund, write to contact@seiton.im and we will sort it out with you.

Ending it

You can stop using Seiton whenever you like, and you can delete your whole account from inside the app, from Settings then Profile. Deleting it removes the home synced under it and everything we hold for it, and cancels a subscription billed through us; one bought in the App Store or Google Play has to be cancelled in that store. If other people are still in your house, take them off the family list first.

Export your inventory before you go if you want to keep it: export and import are built into the app, so nothing is locked in.

We may suspend or close an account that is being used for something on the list above, or in a way that puts the service or other people at risk.

What we can and cannot promise

Seiton is provided as it is. We look after it and we want it to work, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable, never lose a sync, or suit every purpose you have in mind.

Your inventory lives on your device first, and that is the copy to look after: keep your own backups through the export in the app. Access to our storage is restricted and sync travels over encrypted connections, but no system anywhere is perfect and absolute security is not something anyone can promise.

The suggestions Seiton offers when you ask it to describe an item from its photos are just that: suggestions, produced by an outside service, for you to accept or change.

Changes to this page

This page may change now and then. The date above says when it last did, and anything important will be announced in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using Seiton after a change means the new page applies.
