The short version

Seiton is a home inventory app that works offline. The places you map, the items you record and the photos you attach are saved on your own device, and that is where they stay. If you sign in and switch on sync, a copy travels to Seiton so your other devices and the people in your home can see it too.

That is the whole of it. The rest of this page fills in the detail, in plain words.

What Seiton keeps

  • •

Your inventory: the places (rooms, containers) and items you create, with their quantities, barcodes and tags.

  • •

The photos you attach to an item. With sync on, a copy is kept on Seiton's servers so your other devices and your home can see them.

  • •

Your email address, if you sign in. It is what a one-time sign-in code is sent to.

  • •

Your phone number, if you sign in with it instead of an email address. It is what a one-time sign-in code is sent to, one per sign-in, and it is never used for marketing.

  • •

Message and data rates may apply to that text message. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help.

  • •

Who is in your home, so everyone in it sees the same inventory.

  • •

Whether you have Premium. Payments run through Google Play or Stripe, so card details never reach Seiton.

The app works fully without an account. An email address, photos in the cloud, sharing and sync come into play only once you sign in and turn them on, and without Premium sync stays off entirely: nothing leaves your device.

What it is used for

Only for running the app you asked for:

  • •

Keeping your inventory, showing your photos, and letting you search and organize your home.

  • •

Signing you in with a one-time code.

  • •

Syncing between your devices and the people you invite into your home.

  • •

Suggesting a title, description and tags when you ask Seiton to describe an item from its photos.

  • •

    Looking after a Premium subscription.

Seiton is not in the data business: nothing here is sold, and your inventory and photos are never used for advertising.

Services that help run Seiton

A few outside services do the parts Seiton does not do itself:

  • •

Anthropic, for the optional "describe item from photos" feature. When you ask for a suggestion, the photos you picked and the tags you already use are sent over, and the suggested title, description and tags come straight back to you. Nothing goes over unless you ask for it, and Seiton keeps neither the photos it sent nor the answer it got.

  • •

Stripe, for payments. Your card is entered with Stripe and stays with Stripe; all Seiton learns is whether your subscription is active.

  • •

Google Play, for a subscription bought in the Android app. You pay with your Google account and your payment details stay with Google.

  • •

RevenueCat, which keeps track of subscriptions bought in the app. It receives the random ID Seiton gives your account along with your Google Play purchase, and tells Seiton whether your subscription is active. Seiton does not send it your name, email address or inventory.

  • •

Telnyx, which sends the text message with your one-time sign-in code when you sign in with a phone number. It receives your phone number and that message, code included.

  • •

Amazon Web Services, whose Amazon SES email service sends Seiton's emails: your one-time sign-in code, and the invitation when someone invites you into their home. It receives the email address and the message.

Each of them handles what it receives under its own privacy policy. Data may also have to be handed over where the law requires it.

We will not share or sell your mobile information with third parties for promotional or marketing purposes.

Counting visits to this website

This website counts its visits with Umami, which runs on Seiton's own servers rather than at an outside analytics company. Each page you open sends it the page's address and title, the site that linked you here, and your screen size and language, along with what any web request carries: your browser's details and network address. It sets no cookies, and none of it is used for advertising. The Seiton app on your phone sends nothing to it.

Where your photos live

Everything starts on your device. Once sync is on, item photos are copied to Seiton's own servers so they can reach your other devices and your home. Ask at any time and we will tell you where they are hosted.

How long things are kept

Your account and anything synced stay for as long as you use Seiton. Delete an item or a photo and the matching data is removed from our systems within 30 days. Deleting a whole account, and the home synced under it, is done from inside the app, from Settings then Profile, and what we hold for it goes within that same 30 days. Photos sent over for a description follow Anthropic's own terms, and Google Play, RevenueCat and Stripe keep payment records for as long as their services and the law require.

What we hold for a home is not kept forever once its Premium ends. Sync stops with the subscription, so nothing more reaches us, and 30 days later the synced records and photos on our servers are cleared. What is on your own devices is untouched and keeps working, so putting the home back on a new device is an export from a device that still has it and an import on the new one. A home still on Premium is left alone.

Your choices

Your data is yours to take with you or remove whenever you like:

  • •

Export and import: your whole inventory can leave the app and come back, so it is never locked in.

  • •

Deletion: items and photos can be deleted from inside the app, and so can your whole account, from Settings then Profile. Deleting it removes the home synced under it and everything we hold for it, and cancels a subscription billed through us; one bought in the App Store or Google Play has to be cancelled in that store, which is the only place that can end it. If other people are still in your house, take them off the family list first. The steps, and how to ask for it without the app, are on Delete your account.

Depending on where you live you may also have the right to see, correct, export or delete the personal data held about you. Email contact@seiton.im and we will take care of it.

Sharing with your home

Inviting someone into a house lets them see everything in it, items and photos included, so invite the people you would trust with your home. Removing a member ends their access: their copy of the app offers them an export and then resets to empty, so they may still hold a copy of what they saw while they were part of the house.

Children

Seiton is not made for children, and no personal data is knowingly kept about them. If you believe a child has sent us something, write to contact@seiton.im and we will delete it.

Keeping it safe

Access to our storage is restricted and sync travels over encrypted connections. No system anywhere is perfect, so absolute security is not something anyone can promise, but your data is treated with care.

Changes to this page

This page may change now and then. The date above says when it last did, and anything important will be announced in the app before it takes effect.
