FAQ

The questions we get asked most

What Seiton does, where your inventory lives, and what changes once you share a home or subscribe.

Using Seiton

What does Seiton actually do?

It turns your home into a searchable inventory. You map the house as a tree of places (rooms, cupboards, shelves, boxes inside boxes) and fill them with items, each carrying photos, quantities, tags and a barcode.

How deep can places nest?

As deep as your house goes. A place holds items and other places alike, so a garage can hold a cabinet that holds a drawer, and every level stays browsable and searchable.

Can I add a lot of things at once?

Yes. Adding places in bulk creates one place per line you type, under a parent you pick once. Adding items in bulk keeps the camera open on one place, and every save creates another item.

Does it work without a connection?

Completely. The whole inventory lives on your device, so browsing, searching and editing never wait on a network. If you turn sync on, it catches up by itself once you are back online.

Can I scan barcodes?

Yes. An item can carry a barcode you scan with the camera. If you never use it, the field can be switched off in Settings, and the same goes for tags.

How do I find something again?

Search one place or the whole house by word, and narrow what comes back by tag. From the results you can select several items and move or delete them in one sweep.

Can Seiton fill an item in for me?

With Premium it can: from an item's photos it suggests a description and picks tags out of the ones you already use, so it never invents a vocabulary of its own. Nothing you typed is overwritten.

What languages does the app speak?

English and Spanish.

Your data

Where is my inventory kept?

On your device. Your inventory is uploaded only if you turn on sync or share your home with someone, and neither is on by default.

Can I get my data out again?

Yes. Settings has a Data screen that exports the whole inventory, photos included, as a single file you save wherever you like. The same screen imports one back.

How do I move to a new phone?

Export on the old device and import on the new one. With Premium you do not have to: sign in on the new device and it fills itself from your household.

Is there a limit on how much I can add?

Places and items are unlimited on both plans, and Premium is flat rather than metered: the price does not change with how much you keep in it.

Sharing and sync

How does sharing a home work?

The owner of a household invites people by email. Everyone who joins sees and edits the same inventory, so the house has one picture of itself instead of one per phone. It is part of Premium.

Which devices stay in sync?

Every device signed in to the household. A change made on one turns up on the others by itself, and each device keeps working offline in between.

What happens when I leave a household?

The home keeps its places and items, and your device goes back to an inventory of its own. Seiton walks you through saving an export first, then clears the shared inventory off that device and offers to import your export back.

Can the owner remove someone?

Yes, from the family screen. The household keeps everything it holds, and the person removed keeps the app and starts a home of their own.

Plans and billing

Do I need an account to start?

No. Seiton works fully offline with no account at all. You need to sign in for family sharing, sync, describing items from their photos, and voting on ideas.

Who pays for the household?

The owner of the household. Once they upgrade, everyone they invite gets Premium too.

Can I use it on more than one device?

On Free, each device keeps its own inventory. Premium is what makes every device converge on the same one.

What happens if I cancel?

Your inventory stays on your device and stays usable. Multi-device sync and family sharing stop until you subscribe again.
